ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Dr. Fleurdeliz Maglangit is a distinguished chemist and UP Scientist I, recognized for her innovative research in natural products and sustainable waste management. Holding a PhD degree in Chemistry from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, UK, her research bridges the fields of chemistry and biotechnology, focusing on the utilization of the black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens L.) in waste valorization and the development of eco-friendly products. Her work has resulted in several high- impact publications and multiple awards, including the Best Technology, One UP Professorial Chair Award, and Gawad Chancellor for Outstanding Achievement in Research

Ruby Sasha Alosbaños was the owner of Chesed Farm. She also works as a copywriter. Having experienced firsthand the problems livestock farmers face, she is passionate about sustainable farming methods. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology.

Lorie Mae B. Lozano, a recent BS Biology graduate from the University of the Philippines Cebu, is driven by a passion for understanding the wonders of life. Equipped with solid knowledge of biological principles and research methodologies, she seeks opportunities to contribute to scientific advancements. Interested in natural products, she aims to pursue further studies or gain hands-on experience in research, conservation, or healthcare. Dedicated to environmental stewardship, Lorie hopes to promote a better understanding of our natural world through scientific literacy and exploration.

Dr. Florence C. Evacitas is an Associate Professor at the University of the Philippines Cebu–Department of Biology and Environmental Science, where she has been teaching for the last twenty-one years. She earned her PhD degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the National Taiwan University and her MSc degree in Environmental Studies from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. She specializes in the use of stable isotopes to trace trophic/feeding interactions in marine ecosystems and examine life history traits in vertebrates, specifically on marine mammals, fishes, and recently on birds.
