DESCRIPTION
[Dusking, Dawning] is the remarkable autobiography of Lualhati Milan Abreu, activist, feminist, guerrilla, and cultural worker, whose life story is deeply intertwined with the history of liberation struggles in the Philippines over the last hundred years. This insider’s account of the contemporary revolutionary movement’s roots, inception, expansion, crisis, and achievements is notable not just for its insights into the people, places, and events that shaped radical politics, but for its unflinching candor and its haunting evocation of the agony and ecstasy of commitment and sacrifice at the heart of revolutionary thought and action.
— Caroline S. Hau, Professor, Kyoto University, Japan
Together, Lualhati M. Abreu and I grew up in the revolutionary movement at almost the same time. But I nevertheless belittled her when word reached me that she “surrendered.” It was fake news. She did not surrender.
It is also not correct, in my humble opinion, to say that this book is not valuable to the revolutionary movement. It is going to be so, and that is precisely why I finally saw to its publication. “The book must come out,” so declared dear friend Monico Atienza. It does not mean, though, that I did not have second thoughts about it. This is an issue where you, the readers, will have the final say.
Abreu had done what she must. It is now our turn. All for the rectification movement, all for victory.
