As the title suggests, this work on Philosophy and Filipino Film will involve a close reading of both Martin Heidegger’s Being and Time and Manuel Silos’s Biyaya ng Lupa. The pairing hopes to provide a better appreciation and understanding of both texts— each one, in its own way, embodying the spirit of experimentation.

By putting the Question of Being back on the philosophical roadmap, Martin Heidegger’s Being and Time is considered one of the most significant tomes of the twentieth century.  Hailed as one of the finest gems of Pinoy Cinema, Manuel Silos’s Biyaya ng Lupa stands above and beyond the formulaic works of its era, the late 1950s.

This book seeks to bring the study of philosophy outside of the “academic sandbox” with the alignment of these two timeless masterpieces.
